The Ethiopian Society of Chemical Engineers (ESChE) invites qualified and experienced professionals to apply for the position of Managing Editor for the Ethiopia Journal of Chemical Engineering (EJChE).
As part of ESChE’s strategic initiative to revitalize and strengthen academic publishing in Ethiopia, EJChE is undergoing a comprehensive transformation aimed at becoming a high-quality, internationally recognized, open-access scientific journal. The journal is pursuing accreditation and indexing through major platforms, including the Ministry of Education, Scopus, the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), and African Journals Online (AJOL).
This is an exciting opportunity to play a leading role in shaping the future of chemical engineering research dissemination in Ethiopia and beyond.
Position Summary
The Managing Editor will serve as the operational lead of the journal, overseeing editorial workflows, manuscript processing, publication management, and journal visibility initiatives. The successful candidate will work closely with the Editorial Board to ensure the publication of high-quality research and the achievement of the journal’s indexing and accreditation goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and administer the journal’s Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform.
- Coordinate manuscript submissions, peer review processes, and editorial workflows.
- Communicate with authors, reviewers, and editorial board members.
- Perform copyediting and coordinate proofreading activities.
- Prepare accepted manuscripts for publication through typesetting and formatting.
- Support journal indexing, accreditation, and quality assurance initiatives.
- Develop and implement strategies to increase journal visibility, readership, and citation impact.
- Maintain publication schedules and ensure timely issue release.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
- A PhD in Chemical Engineering or a closely related field.
- A minimum of five (5) peer-reviewed publications in Scopus- or Web of Science-indexed journals.
- Demonstrated knowledge of academic publishing processes.
- Working experience with Open Journal Systems (OJS).
- Proficiency in manuscript formatting and typesetting using LaTeX and/or Word-based journal templates.
- Strong written communication and organizational skills.

Compensation
