International Fellowship Opportunity for Women in STEM

The Ethiopian Society of Chemical Engineers (ESChE) is pleased to share the Schlumberger Foundation Faculty for the Future Fellowship 2027, an international fellowship supporting women from developing and emerging economies pursuing PhD or postdoctoral studies in STEM disciplines abroad.

ESChE encourages qualified Ethiopian women researchers and professionals to explore this opportunity, review the official eligibility criteria, and begin preparing their applications early.

Key Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must, among other requirements:

  • Be a woman and citizen of an eligible developing or emerging country.
  • Be pursuing PhD studies or postdoctoral research in a STEM discipline.
  • Have applied to, been admitted to, or be enrolled at a recognized university or research institute outside their home country.
  • Demonstrate an excellent academic record.
  • Demonstrate teaching experience, leadership, and community engagement, including a commitment to encouraging women and girls to pursue STEM.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to contributing to their home country or region following their studies.

The fellowship selection process is highly competitive. Particular emphasis is placed on the quality of the research proposal, academic record, references, host institution, teaching commitment, relevance of the proposed work to the applicant’s home country, and commitment to inspiring women in STEM.

Important Information for Applicants

This is an open fellowship opportunity, and applicants are free to independently select their:

  • Host university or research institution
  • Research area
  • Prospective supervisor

Applicants do not need to work with ESChE or any particular individual to apply for the fellowship. Candidates are responsible for identifying and securing their prospective host institution and supervisor in accordance with the fellowship requirements.

Through its professional network, ESChE may facilitate connections where appropriate. In particular, a member of the ESChE Editorial Board at Arizona State University (ASU) has kindly offered to support highly qualified candidates who independently choose to pursue research with him, including potential host-supervisor support and research collaboration. Any such support remains subject to the requirements and processes of both the fellowship and ASU.
