Desta mebratu
Desta Mebratu is currently an Extraordinary Professor at Centre for Complex Systems in Transition (CST), Stellenbosch University and CEO of the African Transformative Leapfrogging Advisory Services (ATLAS). He is a chemical engineer by background and has a PhD of engineering in Industrial Environmental Economics from Lund University. He also has an MBA in international business from American University of London. He has more than 29 years of experience working for industries, universities and international organizations. He worked for United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) for more than 13 years holding various positions. This includes serving as Head of the Business and Industry Unit and as Deputy Regional Director for Africa. His main areas of expertise are: resource efficient and cleaner production, sustainable energy systems, sustainable industrial development policies and Green Economy. He has published more than 40 articles in peer-reviewed journals, books and conference reports and is a Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences (FAAS), Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study in South Africa and Pufendorf Institute for Advanced Studies, Sweden. Professor Mebratu served as Vice President and President of the Chemical Society of Ethiopia (1992-95) and President of the Ethiopian Society of Chemical Engineers (2000-2003).
